Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 4 oz shaved turkey
  • 2 slices bread (sourdough, sub roll, or ciabatta)
  • 2 slices provolone or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp mayo
  • salt and pepper to taste

Hot Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp poppy seeds

Cold Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 2 slices tomato
  • 2–3 slices red onion
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

  • Cold Sub Method: Slice the sub roll and place provolone on the bottom half to create a moisture barrier.
  • Add shaved turkey on top of the cheese.
  • Layer lettuce, tomato, and onion.
  • Mix olive oil, vinegar, and oregano, then drizzle lightly over the veggies.
  • Spread a thin coat of mayo on the inside of the top piece of bread.
  • Close the sandwich and press gently to hold the layers in place.
  • Hot Melt Method: Stir melted butter with Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and poppy seeds.
  • Brush the mixture on the inside of both slices of bread.
  • Fill the sandwich with shaved turkey and cheddar.
  • Heat a pan on medium until a small amount of butter begins to bubble.
  • Place the sandwich in the pan and press lightly with a spatula.
  • Flip once the bottom is golden and the cheese begins to melt.
  • Cook until both sides are crisp and the center is warm.

Notes

You can use gluten-free bread if needed. Havarti or Gouda work well as alternative cheeses. For extra crunch in the cold version, chill the vegetables before assembling.
